The future is just around the corner. Find out now how it will look like.
1. Feedback has been considered
The latest route updates for Google Maps will be rolling out globally to Android and iOS in the coming months. confusing intersections or road closures – can lead to more accidents, and Google claims its new technology will help reduce the number of accidents on roads.
Google says it takes and rates the quickest routes that have less chance of hard braking moments. If the estimated driving time is the same (as the fastest route) or just slightly longer, Google will suggest the safer route as the default.
2. Live View goes into more detail
Also, in the coming months, improvements to Live View will be rolled out globally in Google Maps for Android and iOS, providing an AR (augmented reality) street view display of your surroundings and vital information such as street names and navigation directions via the live feed of the camera of your smartphone.
It also shows more information about businesses in your area, such as: B. a live guide telling you where to visit.
While the feature is well established in 100 countries for outdoor locations, the new update will see an expansion to indoor locations like malls, airports, train stations, museums and more, which were available in limited capacity earlier this year.
The expanded indoor live view will be rolled out first in Zurich, with more cities to be added in the future.
3. Maps with more detail
Google is adding even more detail to its maps to give users an idea of what an area looks like before they visit it – from information about crosswalks and sidewalks to areas that are wheelchair accessible and more.
Detailed street maps are currently only available in a handful of cities, but Google will add another 50 by the end of 2021, with cities like Seattle, Singapore, Berlin and Sao Paulo due for the upgrade later this year.
It will be available on the Google Maps app for iOS and Android, with more cities coming soon.
4. A customized map
All of this extra detail might seem a bit excessive for some users, but Google tries to remove information you don’t want while keeping the things that are important to you.
Google Maps can identify your frequent routes and activities. So knowing you’ll be stopping by a coffee shop every morning will show those better during your commute times, while it can highlight restaurants and bars in the evenings.
Bespoke maps will be rolled out globally to the Android and iOS Google Maps app in the coming months.
5. Post-pandemic opportunities
Many of us are more cautious when we are in public, and people try to avoid busy and crowded places in order to be more socially distancing.
Google has recognized this post-pandemic trend. It can already provide information about specific locations – like bars and restaurants – but the new Maps update makes it possible to provide information about an entire area.
The goal is to help users understand when certain streets or neighborhoods are much busier than usual, so you can make informed decisions about where to go and where to avoid at certain times.

Google Pixel 5a 5G: everything you need to know about the new smartphone.
Google Pixel 5a is a mega successor to the incredibly good Pixel 4a. The Pixel 5a inspires more than the 4a. In essence, this new phone is a cheaper Pixel 4a 5G with a bigger battery. Since we also liked this phone very much, the costs are around 600 euros. For this money you get 5G network and the biggest battery we’ve ever seen in a Pixel. This also translates into real benefits, with the Pixel 5a lasting longer than almost every other Google phone we’ve tested.
It’s also the first waterproof Pixel in the A series, taking on a feature that Google has long reserved for its flagship devices. The prices have gone up quite a bit in recent years.
